Pride week (and summer generally) always brings up internalized fatphobia for me. The homonormative culture with its very narrow definition of attractive bodies can feel toxic to me. Even with non-normative more radical groups there is often still a hierarchy of attractiveness that often leaves out those of us with extra weight or disabilities (hidden or not). How do combat the shame that can arise from being in these spaces? The solution for some may be to not attend events or to create others, but for those of us who want to participate, how do we practice self care? What do you do to love yourself in these situations?
